At the end of July, Xiaomi started rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update in China. This update is now finally available for Indian versions of this handset called Redmi 9 Prime and POCO M2. Since neither of them got Android 11 like their international counterparts, the new system update also brings last year’s Android for them.

The Redmi 9 Prime sold in India is a rebranded Redmi 9 available elsewhere. On the other hand, the POCO M2 is also basically a Redmi 9 in different colors. Hence, the two smartphones run near identical software and are receiving the latest update together.

The Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the POCO M2 arrives with build number V12.5.1.0.RJRINXM. Whereas, the same update bears build number V12.5.1.0.RJCINXM for the Redmi 9 Prime. Both the builds also come with August 2021 security patches.

The latest software builds for these two handsets are being rolled out in batches. Therefore, they might reach some units earlier than others. In simpler words, the update is not available for every user at the moment. However, it should reach all users in the coming days.

Android 11 is the first-ever major Android update for the POCO M2 and the Redmi 9 Prime. We don’t think that these phones will be updated to Android 12. But on the bright side, they could receive MIUI 13 in the future.
