Lately, Xiaomi has been working on improving MIUI, which is not only the company’s mobile operating system based on Android but also its first-ever product. This year itself, the Chinese tech giant has released two new minor updates, namely MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition. Additionally, it is also working on multiple other features. One of these latest features is ‘MIUI Pure Mode’.

Xiaomi has started recruiting testers for a new feature called ‘MIUI Pure Mode’ in China. This is an optional feature that helps users in protecting themselves from malicious applications.

The company says that due to the open nature of Android, users can easily become a victim of an attack through hostile applications. The smartphone maker explains that 40% of apps installed by MIUI users have never passed its security audit. Also, 10% have been recognized as potential risks.

To fix this, Xiaomi is introducing MIUI Pure Mode. When this feature is enabled, users cannot install apps from external sources. Also, it blocks any installation happening in the background without the consent of users.

Unlike Apple, Xiaomi lets users disable this feature. Hence, they can install apps from other sources if they want to.

As of now, it’s not known when MIUI Pure Mode will make its way to the stable channel. Most importantly, there’s also no information regarding its availability in international markets.
