Samsung is rolling out a new update to the Galaxy Watch4 series, its latest line of smartwatches announced in August. The new update brings new customization features, new ways to operate your watch, and Fall Detection.

Galaxy Watch4 new watch faces

New Watch Faces

The Galaxy Watch4 series is getting four new watch faces, all of which have their own special features and use cases. Info Brick allows you to monitor your health stats right from your homescreen and owners will be able to customize what stats are displayed. Weather Center is a watch face that does what the name says – display weather info while Basic Dashboard displays info such as date, steps, battery level, time from other zones, and the temperature while Live Wallpaper brings the live wallpapers of the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 to your wrist.

The update will also allow owners to choose a gif for the My Photo+ watch face and add up to four complications to the Animals watch face. Steps Challenge Watch Face also adds new animations such as an animated bear that will stretch before you begin the challenge, celebrate when you win, and sob when you lose.

Gesture Control

The Galaxy Watch4 can be controlled with gestures such as rotating your wrist twice to reject a call or dismiss an alarm. Samsung has added a new one that allows for a double knock gesture to launch a pre-set app, open the list of workouts, turn on a light, or create a reminder.

Fall Detection

The new update also brings Fall Detection to the Galaxy Watch4 but unlike when it made its debut last year on the Galaxy Watch3, Fall Detection will not only work when you fall during an exercise but can also be adjusted to detect a fall even if the wearer is standing still. When a fall is detected, it will send an SOS notification to up to four pre-selected contacts.

Samsung is also offering a free 60-day subscription to Strava for Galaxy Watch owners including older models.
