Chinese technology brand Realme has announced the appointment of Indian cricketer KL Rahul as its brand ambassador for smartphones. The company says that the partnership will further complement the brand’s attitude of setting new benchmarks, inspiring thousands of millennials across the country.

Last year, the company had appointed Bollywood star Salman Khan as the brand ambassador and the first devices endorsed by the actor were the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro smartphone models.

Commenting on the new partnership with KL Rahul, Chief Marketing Officer of India, Europe, and Latin America, Francis Wong, said: “We are optimistic that the partnership will add unprecedented value to the smartphone category since we will also be able to target the massive fan following Rahul enjoys. We are certain that the partnership of such stature with a seasoned celebrity like him will strengthen the brand proposition of making cutting-edge technology, fun, stylish, quality-driven products available to the audience.”

The company recently announced that it has sold devices worth ₹3,500 crores across all channels during the “Realme festive days” from October 2nd to 10th. The firm also said that it saw a 1200 percent jump in the sale of phones in the ₹20,000-₹30,000 segments on the inaugural day of the festive day sales.

Realme was first introduced in 2018 as a sub-brand of OPPO but it was later split into an independent company. Last year, it became the fastest brand to reach 50 million shipments and in less than one year of that, the brand’s total shipments reached 100 million units, making it the fastest-growing brand ever.

Last month, the company revealed that it has become the fourth-largest smartphone brand from China and has even managed to reach the sixth spot in the global rankings. Data from Counterpoint Research revealed that Realme’s smartphone shipments reached 15 million in the second quarter of this year, marking a whopping 135.1 percent increase year on year.
