Apple recently rolled out the macOS 12 Monterey update for the eligible Mac devices, which was first revealed by the technology giant during WWDC 2021 in June. Since then, the company had been fine-tuning the system in the beta phase and it finally released the stable version last week.

However, even after beta testing the new operating system for months, there’s an issue with the macOS 12 Monterey stable build as it is bricking older Macs for some of the users, who are unable to power their Macs, reports MacRumors.

There are a number of such complaints from users on social media and online forums claiming that they are unable to even turn on the device, making them useless. They say that when they attempt to update their Mac device to ‌macOS Monterey‌, the device goes completely black and is not powering On after that.

It isn’t the first that Apple is facing this issue with the newer version of the macOS released for the users. Last year, with the release of macOS Big Sur, users were complaining about similar issues that bricked the older MacBook Pro models.

Currently, it seems that the issue isn’t as widespread as the macOS Big Sur issue last year but still it is affecting a number of users. The issue is limited to the Intel-powered Mac devices, especially the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac.

Apple is currently testing macOS 12.1, but that update isn’t expected to be released for a few weeks. Meanwhile, the company could release a minor update fixing this issue but we are yet to hear anything from the company. With Apple messing up a major OS update a second time, Mac users should now be more cautious and wait for some time before updating their older Mac device.
