The United Kingdom will require new home and business constructions to incorporate EV chargers into their designs beginning from 2022. The new requirement could mean up to 145,000 new EV charging points will be added annually to the national pool. The move by the UK government is aimed at expanding access to charging resources for the fast-growing electric vehicle segment.electric vehicle

The UK government is thus making proactive moves to ensure a seamless future of electric vehicles in the country. The press statement released by the government says the regulation will mean that people can buy new properties ready for an electric vehicle future. It will also ensure that charging stations are readily available at new shops and workplaces in the country. The fine details of the new law are not yet available and the operation of the model is still unclear.

Already, the UK government has seen the installation of over 250,000 charging points although the opposition Labour Party is calling out the government for the uneven distribution of charging stations across the country. London and the southeast of England is favored to benefit more from the new law than the rest of England and Wales. The opposition is also accusing the government of not doing enough to make EVs affordable to lower and middle-income families.
