In the last few days, we found out that there is an old phone which is still popular among Gizmochina’s readers: the Vivo V15. Despite this handset making its debut almost three years ago, there are a lot of people still interested in this device for various reasons. But does it still make sense to buy such a phone in 2021 or it is passed and you should opt for something more recent? In order to answer this question, we decided to compare the Vivo V15 with one of the most recent phones sold in the same price range: the Vivo Y50t. This handset hitten the shelves earlier this month with midrange specifications and no 5G in order to provide a very affordable price. Here is a comparison between the specifications of the Vivo V15 and the Vivo Y50t.

Design

The design of the Vivo V15 looks very suggestive for two main reasons: the first is the fact that it provides a full-screen experience, without a notch and without any hole, thanks to the presence of a motorized pop-up camera. The second is the very high screen to body ratio, with very narrow bezels around the display. This phone is entirely built of plastic with the exception of the front glass, but it still looks premium. Further, its display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The design of the Vivo Y50t may look more modern on the rear side due to the camera module, but the front panel is less impressive. That is why I would go for the Vivo V15.

Display

On the paper, the displays of the Vivo V15 and the Vivo Y50t have the same main specifications, with the exception of the Gorilla Glass 5 protection which is present only on the V15 and the punch hole of the Vivo Y50t. They are IPS LCD panels with a diagonal of 6.53 inches and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and they have a standard refresh rate. We are talking about average displays in the mid/low-end segment, nothing special but nothing disappointing. The Vivo V15 has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, while the fingerprint scanner of the Vivo Y50t is side-mounted.

Hardware/Software

There is a big difference between the hardware of these two handsets. The Vivo V15 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, while the Vivo Y50t has the Snapdragon 720G. The Snapdragon 720G is much more powerful than the Helio P70 and it is built with an 8 nm production process, which means the energy consumption is lower. Further, the Vivo Y50t has 8 GB of RAM, while the Vivo V15 stops at 6 GB. Last but not least, the internal storage of the Vivo Y50t is UFS 2.1, while the Vivo V15 has an eMMC storage. Even when it comes to the software the Vivo Y50t is more recommended: it ships with Android 10 and OriginOS out of the box, while the Vivo V15 is still based on Android 9 Pie.

Camera

If you need a superior rear camera, then you should go for the Vivo Y50t: it has a better 48 MP main sensor. On the other hand, the Vivo V15 has better secondary sensors: an 8 MP ultrawide camera and a 5 MP depth sensor, while the Vivo V15 provides two useless 2 MP cameras for macros and depth. Another advantage of the Vivo V15 is its amazing 32 MP front camera, while the Y50t has a low-end 8 MP snapper.

Battery

The Vivo Y50t is equipped with a bigger 4500 mAh battery which, alongside the 8 nm processor providing a lower energy consumption, allows for longer battery life.

Vivo V15 vs Vivo Y50t: Price

Despite it being released in 2019, the Vivo V15 is still a great phone nowadays. Its original price was €310/$351, but now the street prices are a lot more affordable and close to the Vivo Y50t selling for about €190/$215. The Vivo Y50t wins the comparison because of its better chipset, bigger battery, updated software, but the Vivo V15 is a better phone for selfies and includes an ultrawide camera and a better design among its pros.
