Xiaomi Corporation announced today that Xiaomi Foundation Limited — the company’s own charitable institution — will donate $100,000 to World Vision Philippines and Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia, respectively, to help those affected by Typhoon Rai in the Philippines and Malaysia.
Based on the Philippines’s disaster council, over 870,334 families or around 23,380,167 individuals in the country alone have been impacted by Typhoon Rai, and over 348,642 houses have been damaged. Thousands of volunteers are already working around the clock to assist those affected and to provide survival necessities such as food, water, hygiene kits, cooking sets, emergency shelter kits, and more.
A statement from Xiaomi’s press release read, “As a global company, we believe it is our duty to be responsible, and to give back to communities impacted by situations such as this.”
Typhoon Rai is also known as Typhoon Odette in the Philippines and was a powerful and catastrophic tropical cyclone that struck the country. It became the first Category 5-equivalent super typhoon to develop in December but dissipated on December 22nd.
Xiaomi Corporation was founded in April 2010 and listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on July 9, 2018. It is a consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company with smartphones and smart hardware connected by an IoT platform at its core.
