According to a report by The Verge, at CES 2022, BMW has revealed their new Theatre Screen prototype. The entertainment system was built into a car which appeared to be their luxury Electric 7 Series.

The screen is fitted into the ceiling of the car which descends to give a comfortable viewing experience. The screen has an 8K resolution of 8000 x 2000 and supports aspect ratios of 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9. The system runs Fire OS which grants access to most modern video streaming services and other Fire TV apps and has 5G connectivity support.

The 31-inch panel is a touch screen and additionally, small touchpad controls are built into the rear doors of the car. The BMW Theatre Screen offers surround sound using 30 speakers from Bowers & Wilkins. BMW describes the sound as “4D” as it also utilizes the speakers built into the rear seats to provide audio vibrations and high emersion during intense moments.

The German automaker takes the emersion aspect even further as they stated that ” When the screen descends from the ceiling, the roller sunblinds for the side windows and the rear window are closed and the ambient lighting in the rear of the vehicle is dimmed.”

The company is yet to provide any information regarding the availability and cost of this Theatre Screen entertainment system but BMW officials have stated that the features “look quite similar to what will be launched very soon in series production.”
