Earlier today, news broke Tencent will officially acquire the Black Shark gaming phone brand in China. Hours after those talks, the popular Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station revealed that the company also has plans for launching the Black Shark 5 series this year.

As per the tipster, the company has the Black Shark 5 series in the pipeline. It will have two phones codenamed the Katyusha and Patriot. The former device with model number KTUS-A0 has already been filed with China’s MIIT confirming its existence.

The tipster further revealed that the series will bring significant upgrades over the predecessor like a new chipset, big battery, and the latest OS. The Black Shark 5 will come with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and run on Android 12-based JOYUI. The phone will have a 4,600mAh dual-cell battery and support 100W fast charging support.

Moreover, another tipster called Bald Panda revealed that the Black Shark 5 Pro will pack a 5,000mAH battery, have a 120W fast charging support, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. He also revealed that the device may feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and 2k resolution.

To recall, the predecessor Black Shark 4S and 4S Pro had a smaller 4,500mAh battery and was powered by Snapdragon 870/888 SoC.

As of now, Black Shark is yet to officially tease the series, but we expect the company to announce it soon as we get to see more such leaks in the future.
