Xiaomi recently just announced its Xiaomi 12 series in its December Flagship Launch Event. It announced the Xiaomi 12X, its budget Flagship sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 Chipset, and its fully-fledged flagships, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, both sporting the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood.
Besides the higher base clock, greater CPU and GPU performance, one thing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers over the Snapdragon 870 is its support for 64-bit applications. This is because of the newer ARMv9 architecture present on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which includes the newer ARM Cortex A510 and Cortex X2 cores that run on 64-bit instruction sets.
One of Xiaomi China’s official spokespersons, Cici_Laowei on Weibo, shared that with the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro supporting 64-bit applications, here’s how you can upgrade your current 32-bit applications to its 64-bit counterpart.
First, open up your Xiaomi App Gallery, then select “Application Upgrade” on the left of the app gallery’s starting page.
Next, you should see a 64-bit sticker next to the app(in the example below, the Starbucks app now has a 64-bit version to be upgraded) and you may now select to upgrade the available apps to 64-bit with a simple click.
Xiaomi also mentions why you should upgrade your apps to 64-bit is because the 64-bit versions consume less battery compared to the 32-bit versions of the app.
Xiaomi’s Cici_Laowei shared that after upgrading to 64-bit, her Xiaomi 12’s battery life had a massive boost. From 9 am till night, the Xiaomi 12 lasted her throughout the day with 25% battery left to spare. Her detailed usage was 5 hours and 31 minutes of screen on time(SOT) and a usage time of 13 hours and 29 minutes.
Note that the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro are now available on Giztop for $699 and $899 respectively.
