Along with the new iPhone SE, Mac Studio, and more products announced at the “Peek Performance” launch event by Apple, the Cupertino-based technology giant has also announced the fifth-generation Apple iPad Air.

The new Apple iPad Air comes with the same design as its predecessor but has updated internals and now has support for 5G connectivity.

The tablet features a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina Display that is claimed by the company to have a peak brightness of 500 nits and HDR support. Also, Apple has made no reference to ProMotion so it has a standard refresh rate. It also offers P3 wide color gamut, True Tone, and an anti-reflective screen coating.

Internally, the product is powered by Apple Silicon’s M1 processor. This is the same chip that is powering the latest iPad Pro and was first used in the Mac products. The processor has an 8-core CPU and is touted to be 60 percent faster than A14 Bionic which is used in the last generation iPad Air.

Taking care of the photography needs is a 12-megapixel camera sensor on the back, similar to its predecessor. On the front side, the company has upgraded the camera sensor to 12-megapixel, which also supports the Centre Stage feature from Apple.

The power button on the tablet also includes a Touch ID sensor for biometric authentication, which is located at the top of the device. It also comes with landscape stereo speakers. There’s also a USB Type-C port with data transfers up to 10Gbps.

Similar to the previous-generation model of the iPad Air, this one too is compatible with accessories from the company, including Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and Smart Folio covers.

The Apple iPad Air comes in five colors — Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, Blue, and Purple. It has a starting price of $599 for the base model with Wi-Fi-only connectivity and 64GB internal storage. The company is also offering a 256GB internal storage model as well as a model with 5G connectivity support. It will be up for pre-orders from 11th March and will be available for purchase from 18th March.
