The Japanese superhero film Shin Ultraman is set for release on May 13 after a lengthy delay occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic that scuttled the 2021 scheduled launch. Ahead of the release, Japanese tech giant Sony Corporation has unveiled an Ultraman limited, customized edition of the Wena 3 smartwatch.
Sony Wena3 Ultraman edition will be super limited as the company indicated that only 1,000 units will be sold worldwide. The watch is already listed on Sony’s Japan website, ready for reservation. It carries a hefty price tag of 68,200 yen (~$523) but won’t be released until November 7 2022. So, be ready for a long wait if you plan to buy this product.
In terms of appearance, the Wena3 Ultraman edition utilizes a silver-gray metallic frame with a very simplified but stylish dial design. The three hands correspond to the elements of Ultraman and Defense Force in “Shin Ultraman”.
On the back of the watch is the Defence Force Logo, as well as the unique serial number of this limited edition watch. The manufacturer seamlessly combines a metallic barrel-shaped bezel reminiscent of Ultraman’s face with a thick, high-quality rubber band, giving the watch a streamlined form that makes you feel the future and the universe while being modern.
The dial and crown have a rippled button motif of “Beta Capsule”, an item used by Shinji Kaminaga, the main character in the movie when transforming into Ultraman. While the hour hand is designed with the SSSP badge silhouette worn by SSSP members. The watch is also equipped with a moon phase mechanism that displays the phases of the moon. Finally, the back cover is engraved with the board of Shinji Kaminaga’s dog tag.
Of course, since it is a smartwatch, the Wena 3 Ultraman edition comes with several features found on the regular smartwatch. It can be paired with a smartphone and will display notifications. It also comes with health monitoring functions and packs a built-in NFC enabling contactless payment.
In terms of battery life, the watch body packs a built-in battery that can last up to three years. However, there is a module responsible for the display and detection features that need to be charged and can last up to 24 hours on a single charger.
