Samsung has been dominating the foldable smartphone market with multiple devices already available for purchase. The South Korean giant has decided to double down on this new form factor to increase its lead in the market.

While the company is gearing up to launch the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones in the market, a new report hints that Samsung could also introduce a cheaper foldable smartphone in the coming years.

As per the report coming from tipster @chunvn8888 on Twitter, Samsung is working on a cheaper foldable smartphone that will be launched in the market as a part of the company’s Galaxy A-series. However, the smartphone isn’t getting launched anytime soon and is speculated to go official sometime in 2024 or 2025.

With new models of the foldable smartphone getting launched, the pricing is gradually decreasing and in a couple of years, it will be possible for Samsung to introduce a budget foldable smartphone in the market.

It remains to be seen which form factor the South Korean giant goes with for the Galaxy A-series foldable device — book-like fold found on the Galaxy Z Fold lineup or the clamshell fold found on the Galaxy Z Flip series.

The demand for foldable smartphones has been steeply rising. A report from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) reveals that the shipment of foldable smartphones in the first quarter of this year increased by 571 percent year-on-year with 2.22 million units shipped and Samsung continues to dominate the market with 74 percent market share.
