You may know TCL for consumer electronics products such as its Palm and Blackberry smartphones, China Star LCD displays, TCL televisions, and also TCL home appliances. However, in TCL’s home country China, the technology conglomerate group also has a renewable energy subsidiary providing sustainable electricity power generation in the region.

TCL

Earlier this week, TCL-owned renewable energy subsidiary company, the “TianJin ZhongHuan Semiconductor Company Ltd.”, abbreviated as “TJSEMI”, has gone through a rebranding exercise by its parent company, TCL. And as of today onwards, the company has been renamed the “TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology Co. Ltd”, abbreviated as “TZE”, which stands for TCL Zhonghuan Energy.

In the media announcement statement, TCL clarifies that the decision to rebrand the company to TZE was in line to further improve clarity, and accurately portray the subsidiary company’s operations and functions to the general public. The rebranding decision was made upon approval in the 24th Internal Meeting with the 6th Committee Board of Directors in the company and with approval from the 2021 TCL Investors Annual General Meeting as well.

The announcement also states that the securities identification code for the TZE subsidiary still remains the same as TJSEMI, which is “002129”.

As TCL is looking to expand more of its business operations beyond China, the company is currently assessing and undergoing a rebranding and restructuring exercise not only in the parent company but in subsidiaries as well. And the decision to rename several of its subsidiaries to include TCL was to strengthen the brand’s presence in the market as a leader.

However, we cannot deny that TCL’s new subsidiary brand “TZE” does not ring confusion for readers as it sounds very similar to ZTE, which makes telecommunication products like WiFi routers, WiFi cards, 5G modems and even innovative smartphones as well, like the world’s most advanced under-display camera on a smartphone – the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra.
