Infinix has launched its 180W Thunder Charge technology. The company will make it available with an upcoming flagship phone, which will launch later this year. The company’s new charging technology can charge a 4,500 mAh battery to 50 percent in just 4 minutes.

Last year, Infinix announced 160W Ultra Fast Charge technology as a concept model. However, the 180W Thunder Charge will be available to users later this year.  It will offer two kinds of charging modes. There will be a Furious Mode, which was also made available on the Infinix Note 12 VIP, which can charge at maximum speed. It will also have a normal mode, which can charge at a fast pace but manages to keep the temperature low.

Infinix has worked with the world’s leading battery manufacturers to develop a new 8C battery cell, which is the maximum charging rate rechargeable lithium battery in the industry at present. In order to reach a full charge in less time, the company will use two 8C-rated batteries to achieve a combined capacity of 4,500mAh, for example. Each battery will be charged at 90W. For safety, there will be multiple layers of protection and improvements to efficiency to make sure that the temperature inside the car stays low while it is charging.

Three parallel charge pumps with a charging conversion efficiency of 99 percent charge the two batteries, preventing overloads and overheating. For safety, the charging technology has 111 software and hardware security protection mechanisms to protect smartphones, chargers, and charging cables.

In addition, there are 20 sensors, which keep tabs on the temperatures of key components such as the USB port, the charging chips, the battery, and so on. The charging tech ensures that the temperature does not surpass the 43°C mark. This assists in preventing battery degradation.

Thunder Charge will use an encryption chip, which will verify the cable by checking whether it can handle the load. Users will be able to use their desired charging cables. Also, Thunder Charge can be used to power up other devices with a capped speed of 60W or 100W. Last but not least, the 180W Thunder Charge technology has also been approved by the TÜV Rheinland Safe Fast-Charge System.
