Samsung is gearing up for the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for August 10. The company is expected to launch many new devices at this event, however, the show-stopper will undoubtedly be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. So, let’s take a look at what we know so far about the upcoming foldable flagship.
Design & display
Design-wise, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to look quite similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but with a slightly slimmer body compared to the previous generation. It is also said to have 6.1 x 5.1 x 0.27 inches (155 x 130 x 7.1 mm) dimensions, which would make it a little shorter but wider and thicker than its predecessor. Other than these differences, the smartphone will ditch the camera module design of the previous generation in favor of a design more akin to that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Coming to the display, leaks so far suggest that the smartphone will have 6.2 inches (exterior) and 7.6 inches (interior) display panels like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, however, it is said to have a 6:5 aspect ratio, which is more square compared to the 5:4 ratio found on the current gen foldable. The outer display is expected to have an HD+ AMOLED panel, while the inner display will likely offer a QXGA+ AMOLED panel. Both displays are expected to carry support for a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Specs
Under the hood, the smartphone will house Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen Plus SoC which is built on TSMC’s industry-leading 4nm node and boasts up to 30% battery efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. The chipset will come paired with either 12GB or 16GB RAM and will be available in 256GB and 512GB storage options.
The device is said to have a 4,400mAh capacity battery with 25W fast charging. On the software front, the foldable will get an Android 12-based UI packed with features like an easy split screen and bottom-mounted taskbar which are features introduced with Android 12L.
Cameras
Rumors surrounding the cameras suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom support.
The device is said to have a 10-megapixel front-facing camera on the outer display, however, the under-display camera on the foldable’s inner panel has leakers divided. Some suggest that the company will offer an improved 16-megapixel under-display camera on the device, while others state that it’ll be the same 4-megapixel sensor featured on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Pricing
So far, reliable tipsters like Ross Young have stated that there is a chance of a price cut with the upcoming foldable from Samsung including the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This would be quite the welcome news considering the fact that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 debuted with a starting price of $1,799.
However, recent leaks from European retailers suggest that the device will be getting a price hike rather than a price cut, starting at €1,799 for the 256GB storage model, while the 512GB model is said to cost €1919. We would suggest our readers take these pricing leaks with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for the official reveal scheduled for August 10.
