Sony has just recently announced that it will be increasing the pricing for its PlayStation 5 game console. These price hikes is not worldwide and will only affect select markets. So let’s have a look.

The Japanese tech giant officially announced the new price changes for various regions across the globe. So now, the PS5 will be more expensive in Europe, the UK, Japan, China, Australia, Canada, and Mexico as well. The brand stated that the main reason for the price hike is due to high global inflation rates and poor currency trends that have been affecting many industries as well as the consumers. Other regions like India have fortunately not seen a rise in price. Interestingly, the PS5 becoming more costlier arrives after Microsoft had also raised the prices for its Xbox Series X and S series of consoles, along with their controller and headset prices as well.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan “We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), as well as Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States.”
