Huawei has finally unveiled the Mate 50 series of smartphones. Apart from the flagship devices such as the Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design, the lineup also includes an upper mid-range device called the Mate 50e. The entire Mate 50 lacks support for 5G connectivity. The Mate 50 flagships are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 4G chipset, while the Mate 50e is equipped with the 4G version of the Snapdragon 778G.
Huawei Mate 50e specifications and features
Unlike the Mate 50 flagships that have a notched display, the Huawei Mate 50e is equipped with a punch-hole screen. The device features a 6.7-inch OLED screen that produces a resolution of 2700 x 1224 pixels, an aspect ratio of 20:9, a refresh rate of 90Hz, a touch sampling rate of 300Hz, and a high-frequency 144Hz PWM dimming. The device comes preloaded with HarmonyOS 3.0.

The Mate 50e has the Snapdragon 778G 4G under the hood. The phone comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of storage. The device is equipped with an NM card slot for additional storage.
The four camera rings on the Mate 50e’s back are just a gimmick since it features a dual-camera setup. The good thing is that it has the XMAGE image processing technology, which is also available on its Mate 50 flagship siblings. It features a 50-megapixel main RYYB lens with a variable aperture of f/1.4 and f/4.0. It is coupled with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera. For selfies, it has a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Mate 50e is backed by a 4,460mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging. It offers connectivity options, such as dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11x, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, and a USB-C port. Lastly, the Mate 50e has an in-screen fingerprint scanner.
Huawei Mate 50e price and availability
The Mate 50e is available in two variants: 3,999 Yuan (~$573) for 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 4,499 Yuan (~$644) for 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. The device comes in Frost Silver, Obsidian Black, and Streamer Purple colors.
