Back in December 2021, OnLeaks shared renders of a rather interesting smartphone from Realme with a horizontal camera design, somewhat similar to Google’s Pixel 6 lineup. The handset was rumored to be a camera-centric version of Realme GT 2 Pro, and the firm even confirmed its existence via a Tweet. However, today, the brand’s VP revealed that the device has been canceled. Here are the details.

Realme’s VP Chase Xu revealed through Weibo that the company has canceled the camera-centric Realme GT 2 Pro (via OnLeaks). The executive did not mention why Realme axed the plan to bring this device to the market. The handset could have performed pretty well since it generated a lot of hype due to its unusual but interesting design.

Even though the device won’t be released anymore, let’s take a moment to admire its design. As can be seen in the renders, the handset has a premium look. Its biggest highlight is the horizontal camera bar on the back, that looks like an amalgamation of Pixel 6’ and Galaxy S10’s camera islands. The module features triple cameras and dual-LED flash cutouts. The engraving in the module suggests the Realme GT 2 Pro could have had GR lenses. For the uninitiated, the GR Lens offers outstanding shooting performance in a small camera body.

In related news, Realme is reportedly gearing up to launch the Realme 10 series of smartphones in a few weeks. Initially, the lineup may include two smartphones— the Realme 10 and the Realme 10 Pro+ 5G. However, the firm may announce other models later. The handsets will likely debut as solid mid-rangers.
