Reports from multiple sources indicate that Netflix could soon release an AAA PC game. The streaming giant is having a fast-expanding collection of mobile games on Android and seems to be stepping up its efforts. A recent Netflix job listing required an expert in shooter games, fueling the current speculation.

While the details of the specific game under development are not known yet, such a game could be incorporated into the Netflix architecture. The company says it’s for a creative and highly-skilled Game Director, to help forge the game’s direction. The person will provide the vision and direction for the game from the concept phase up to launch and actual live operations. He is expected to bring industry-leading craft expertise and attention to detail.
Netflix asserts that creating a great game that players will want to come back to again and again. It says customers will be able to create, ship, and run a game without any competing design constraints. There are other allied listings by Netflix including a lead engineer. Netflix’s LA studio is expected to be the base for AAA PC game development. It could also be working on a cloud-gaming platform for higher-quality offerings to Netflix subscribers.
There are no specifics yet on the quantum of investment already devoted by Netflix to the AAA PC games cause. The adventure into the terrain of building AAA games is time-consuming and expensive. Amazon is one of the spectacular failures in the space and Netflix hopes to chart a more productive path.
