Apple iPhone 15 series smartphones are almost a year away from going official, but details about the upcoming flagship phones from the Cupertino-based technology giant keep surfacing online.

According to the report from Nikkei, Apple will be using Sony’s newest “state of the art” camera sensor for the upcoming iPhone 15 series smartphones. It will double the saturation signal in each pixel compared to the standard sensors. This will allow the sensor to capture more light to cut down on underexposure and overexposure for better performance.

It is said that Sony is using semiconductor architecture that puts photodiodes and transistors onto separate layers, allowing for more photodiodes. Given that Apple has been trying to have significant differences in the non-Pro and Pro models of the phones, it is not yet clear if the new camera sensors will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models or come to the entire lineup.

The upcoming Apple iPhone 15 series is turning out to be a major upgrade compared to the current-generation models if the reports and leaks are to be believed. The smartphones will reportedly come with a new rounded design and are likely to have a titanium build. The phones will also ditch its proprietary Lightning port in favor of the USB Type-C port.

The phones are also expected to be powered by an updated Apple A17 Bionic chipset, which could be manufactured using a 3nm process. They could also come with an updated zoom technology as Apple is reportedly working on a periscope telephoto lens to improve the optical zoom capabilities, allowing for 10x optical zoom on the upcoming iPhones.
