The Arduboy Mini gaming handheld with a 0.96-inch OLED screen and 300+ games is now on Kickstarter. The crowdfunding campaign will run until January 4, 2023, with a minimum target of $30,000.

The Arduboy Mini is a compact gaming handheld that can comfortably sit inside a wallet. It was announced three years ago while its predecessor the Arduboy FX was released this year after a 7-year wait. The company says the new device presents an unparalleled minimalist gaming experience for users.

If the target is met, the Arduboy Mini could arrive around mid-2023. The compact gaming handheld runs the Arduino system and it is compatible with all software developed for its predecessor. It is powered by the 16MHz Atmega 3244 processor with 16MB of flash storage. The 8-bit gaming handheld will not ship with a battery, case, or speaker but it features USB-C charging. It is available in standard and Graffiti colorways and is priced at $129.

So far, the Kickstarter campaign for the Arduboy Mini has gotten up to $18,000 pledged by about 300 backers. Backers will only be charged if the project meets its funding goal by the January 4 deadline. If the campaign reaches 3x its funding goal, custom color circuit boards will be unlocked.

The Arduboy Mini gaming handheld is more affordable and could be very useful in programming lessons via C++. The Arduboy online community also provides support and resources including more than a dozen educational tutorials. The games on the Arduboy Mini are open source and we expect the Kickstarter campaign to be highly successful.
