Based on official notes, the MIJIA Dictionary Pen features a laser assisted scanner. Through this technology, the new product that is being crowdfunded can scan and take recordings of multiple lines or a whole page. These lines can further be used for photo translation to convert texts. The product also supports the transfer of the recorded contents to other apps for edition, sharing, and even printing.

Apart from the laser scanning, the device also has a camera that can take pictures of dedicated paragraphs that the user wishes to record. This sensor is housed on one side of the MIJIA Dictionary Pen, while the other side houses a tall but thin screen to display the content being captured. As per official claims from Xiaomi, the device is capable of a high 99 percent success rate for Chinese and English OCR text recognition. Furthermore, this online/offline translation accurate rate is even comparable to English majors.
