Rather, Xiaomi added that this age old tip actually does more harm than good. The company stated that the toothpaste is at times a polishing agent, however, the micro particles in the paste can not effectively repair the cracks in the screen. Furthermore, toothpaste is actually an alkaline substance, which might destroy the acidic resistance of the oleophobic coating on top of the smartphone’s display overtime. This layer is basically applied on smartphones display to help keep dust and fingerprint smudges away thanks to oils secreted by the human body. The brand also recommended that one should rather go to Xiaomi’s official customer care to deal with such problems.
