Dell unveiled a number of new gaming laptops at the current Consumer Electronics Show 2023 (CES). We earlier covered a couple of laptops called the Alienware M16 and M18. However, the brand has also launched the Alienware x16 laptop, which it claims to be the “world’s most premium gaming laptop“.
The laptop comes with a Lunar Silver Legend 3.0 chassis that measures roughly 18.57 mm thick and weighs 2.72 kg. Three 16-inch display options are available for the Alienware x16: QHD+ (2560 x 1600) 165 Hz, QHD+ 240 Hz, and FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 480 Hz. All three of the panels are capable of G-Sync, have a 3 ms response time, and support Dolby Vision HDR. An FHD IR webcam for Windows Hello-based logins is also housed in the display.
With the Alienware x16, Dell offers a number of Intel Raptor Lake-H CPU options, including the Core i7-13620H, Core i7-13700H, and Core i9-13900HK. The newest Nvidia Ada RTX 40 Laptop GPUs, such as the 140 W RTX 4050 6 GB, 140 W RTX 4060 8 GB, 140 W RTX 4070 8 GB, 175 W RTX 4080 12 GB, and the 175 W RTX 4090 16 GB, are integrated with these.
The CPU and GPU thermal interface materials used in all Alienware x16 configurations are based on Gallium-Silicone Element 31. According to Dell, vapor chamber cooling is used in setups based on the RTX 4080 and 4090 graphics cards. A 12-phase VRM provides steady power to keep the GPU operating at its best for extended periods of gameplay.
Customers can choose RAM options up to 32 GB of LPDDR5-6000 (for the Core i9-13900HK edition) and up to 4 TB of PCIe storage for the Alienware x16. Additionally, the device may be configured with either a CherryMX ultra-low-profile mechanical keyboard or an Alien X Series keyboard, both of which have per-key AlienFX RGB illumination. AlienFX effects for the touchpad, which Dell claims is 15% larger than the one in the Alienware x17 R2, are also available in some configurations.
An Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX1675 or AX1690 WLAN card with Bluetooth 5.3 handles networking requirements. Dolby Atmos certification is available for all Alienware x16 models.
Prices for the Alienware x16 will start at US$3,099 in the first quarter of 2023. At a later date, a base model with a starting price of US$2,149.99 will be offered. A version of the Alienware x16 with AMD options will be unveiled in Q2 2023.
