SK hynix Inc., the South Korean memory chip manufacturer, has made a groundbreaking announcement with the unveiling of the world’s fastest mobile DRAM, the LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo). The LPDDR5T operates at an impressive data rate of 9.6 gigabits per second (Gbps), a 13% increase from the previous generation LPDDR5X, which was released in November 2022. The company added ‘Turbo’ to the standard name LPDDR5 to highlight the maximum speed of the product.

The LPDDR5T operates within the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01 to 1.12V set by the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council). As per company reports, LPDDR5T is extremely fast while having ultra-low power consumption at the same time. SK hynix also plans to provide customers with a variety of storage capacities. The company has provided samples of 16 gigabyte multi-chip packages, which combine multiple LPDDR5T chips into one package. This allows for a processing power of 77GB of data per second.

SK hynix plans to begin mass production of LPDDR5T using 1anm technology in the latter half of the year 2023. 1anm technology is the fourth generation of the 10nm technology. As per IT industry forecasts, there will be an increased demand for memory chips with better specifications, owing to the imminent expansion of the 5G smartphone market. With Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and Virtual reality becoming more and more accessible, SK Hynix predicts that their LPDDR5T DRAM will be an asset to the same.

Sungsoo Ryu, Head of DRAM Product Planning at SK hynix, stated that the company has fulfilled customers’ demand for ultra-high-performance products and will continue to work on technology development to lead the next-generation semiconductor market and become a game-changer in the IT world.
