An indication has come from the Garmin Connect app that the company plans to have skin temperature sensors in future Garmin smartwatches. It is however unclear whether this new temperature tracking feature will be integrated into current Garmin smartwatches.

Garmin

The new entry discovered in the Garmin Connect app shows that Wrist Temperature Measurement has been added to the Connect app. Currently, none of Garmin smartwatches support such kind of health monitoring. However, it is clear that the company could be close to releasing a smartwatch that will feature wrist temperature measurements. The app omitted any information on the compatibility of the Wrist Temperature feature. The new health monitoring feature could however follow the previous Garmin trajectory. Recently, the company added ECG support to the Venu 2 Plus, but it is unclear whether the new feature can be achieved solely via software upgrades.

A few smartwatches in the market have skin temperature monitoring enabled. The Apple Watch Series 8 and Galaxy Watch5 are two of the popular models that have temperature monitoring. The technology is however still at its teething stage as you cannot use the feature in both models for real-time measurement. The feature is used to either improve menstrual cycle accuracy or aid sleep tracking. Garmin already has a couple of smartwatches lined up for an imminent launch. The Garmin Forerunner 265 series and Forerunner 965 series could well come with the skin temperature monitoring feature. It will be interesting to see how advanced the temperature monitoring feature will be compared with Apple or Samsung smartwatches.
