Microsoft has announced the launch of new AI-driven chat tools designed to assist cybersecurity teams in preventing and mitigating cyberattacks. Leveraging OpenAI’s cutting-edge GPT-4 language system and security-specific data, these tools, known as “Copilots,” aim to streamline and simplify threat analysis for security professionals.

The new AI technologies enable rapid analysis and allow users to pose plain English questions, making it accessible to employees with limited expertise in security or AI. This is particularly significant given the current scarcity of skilled workers in the field. According to Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft’s vice-president for security, compliance, identity, and privacy, cyberattacks have significantly increased in speed and frequency since the pandemic.
With the Security Copilot, users can ask questions such as, “How can I contain devices that are already compromised by an attack?” or request a list of individuals who sent or received an email with a dangerous link. The tool can also generate reports and summaries of incidents and responses with ease.
Microsoft will initially grant access to the tool for a select group of customers, with plans to expand availability later. The Security Copilot utilizes data from government agencies and Microsoft’s researchers, who monitor nation-states and cybercriminal organizations. The assistant is designed to work with Microsoft
