Good news for Windows 10 users! Microsoft will continue sending regular updates until the operating system reaches its end of life in October 2025. Here’s the best part: these updates will be smaller in size, resulting in faster downloads and installations.

Windows 10 is using techniques from Windows 11 for more efficient packaging

While Windows 10 doesn’t have many new features coming its way, Microsoft is taking steps to streamline the update process. They’re borrowing a technique from Windows 11 that involves more efficient packaging and removing unnecessary elements from the update package. This will significantly reduce the file size without compromising on the core functionality or security patches.

Think of it as a more optimized way to deliver the essential updates you need. Windows 10 users will continue to receive the monthly Latest Cumulative Update (LCU) but in a smaller package.

If you’re sticking with Windows 10 for now, make sure your PC has the Windows 10 July 23, 2023 update (KB5028244) installed. Additionally, download and install the Servicing Stack Update (SSU) KB5031539 to ensure compatibility with these new, optimized updates.
