Asus ROG Ally’s launch date has been officially confirmed. The Taiwanese manufacturer will unveil its first handheld gaming console on May 11 at 10am in New York, 3pm in London, and 10pm in Taipei. It will be powered by AMD’s newly unveiled Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme chipsets, which are specially designed for handheld gaming consoles. Reports have revealed that the Asus ROG Ally will be equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display that will offer a Full HD+ resolution, an aspect ratio of 16:9, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also features Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the screen. The device will come preloaded with Windows 11 OS.

As mentioned above, the ROG Ally will come in APU choices, such as Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The standard Z1 variant features a CPU with six cores and twelve threads, accompanied by four RDNA-3 compute units for graphics. On the other hand, the Z1 Extreme version enhances the specifications with an upgraded CPU boasting eight cores and sixteen threads, along with twelve RDNA 3 compute units for graphics.

Both APU variants of the ROG Ally come with 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and 512 GB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. There is a microSD card slot onboard for additional storage. The power button of the device is integrated with a fingerprint scanner, which works with Windows Hello.

On the connectivity front, the ROG Ally provides options like Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth. It lacks 5G / 4G LTE connectivity. The exact size of its battery is not known yet, but the company claims that it can last for up to 8 hours on a full charge. The gaming console weighs 608 grams.

As per a recent report, the ROG Ally could be priced between $650 and $700 in North America. It will arrive as a rival to the Steam Deck.
