Honor has announced that its earthquake warning functionality is now available for its smartphones in China. When enabled, this feature will send users a notification if the estimated intensity of the earthquake is lower than 2.0 magnitude. If the estimated intensity is higher than 2.0 degrees, users will receive a full-screen pop-up window with a different color depending on the magnitude of the earthquake.

For instance, the color red will indicates a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5 or greater. Orange will indicate a moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 3 to 5. And yellow will indicate a weak earthquake with a magnitude of 2 to 3. The color of the pop-up window can help users quickly judge the severity of the earthquake and take appropriate action.

Likewise, when an earthquake’s shear wave arrives, the pop-up window on the phone will display emergency shelters, emergency contacts, and a shortcut to your personal emergency information.

To enable the earthquake warning function on Honor smartphones, users can go to Settings > Security > Emergency Warning Notification and turn on the Earthquake Warning option. Your device will then play an alarm sound to test the function. After listening to the alarm sound, users can click Agree.

Honor says that this service requires an internet connection and location services to be turned on. This is so that the phone can obtain device and location information to send earthquake warning messages. Honor’s earthquake warning feature is currently available for its smartphones in all of China, except Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
