Last week, Google set the ball rolling with the announcement of the Android 14 stable update for its Pixel phones, and now, other smartphone manufacturers are following suit by announcing Android 14-based custom user interfaces for their devices. Not to be left behind, Nothing has introduced the Nothing OS 2.5, which is built on the foundation of Android 14 for the Nothing Phone (2).

So, what’s new in Nothing OS 2.5? Well, it’s not just about embracing the Android 14 features; it’s also about enhancing the user experience. Here’s a quick rundown of the key changes:

Nothing’s Touch: Nothing OS 2.5 brings a new look to the Quick Settings layout and introduces Nothing earbuds icons for seamless connectivity. The widgets library interface has been revamped for a cleaner display, and a new screenshot editor with advanced editing options is now available. You can capture screenshots swiftly with a three-finger swipe.

Android 14: Android 14 contributes to the package with its monochrome color theme and the new back gesture for app interactions. There’s an updated Quick Settings layout with Nothing earbuds icons, and you get additional Lock Screen shortcut options like do not disturb, mute, QR code scanner, and video camera. The icing on the cake is the ability to set separate volumes for ringtones and notifications.

Changelog Highlights: The update includes an updated widget library interface, a new photos widget to display your favorite pictures on the Home and Lock Screens, enhanced screenshot editing tools, a redesigned back gesture, the option to hide app icons, and the ability to customize the double-press power button for quick access to your chosen feature. There’s also a joint Home Screen and Lock Screen customization page for more comprehensive options and the introduction of a glass filter for unique wallpapers.

How to Get It: To get involved in the beta testing, make sure your Nothing Phone (2) is running Nothing OS version 2.0.3. Download the APK from the official announcement page on Nothing forums, install it, and navigate to Settings > System > Update to Beta version. Tap “Check for a new version,” follow the steps, and you’re good to go. You can also share your feedback through the Settings menu or join the conversation at nothing.community.
