Netflix announced today that it is increasing the prices of its Basic and Premium subscription plans in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The new prices will take effect immediately.
In the US, the Basic plan will now cost $11.99 per month, up from $9.99, and the Premium plan will cost $22.99 per month, up from $19.99. The price of Netflix’s $6.99 ad-supported plan and $15.49 Standard tier will remain the same.
To note, Netflix no longer offers the Basic plan to new subscribers in the US, but existing subscribers will be subject to the price increase.
Prices for the Basic and Premium plans in the UK and France are also increasing, while the ad-supported and Standard plans remain unchanged. In the UK, the Basic and Premium plans will now cost £7.99 and £17.99, respectively, and in France, the Basic and Premium plans will now cost €10.99 and €19.99, respectively.
Netflix announced the price hikes in its earnings call for the third quarter of 2023. The company said it added 8.8 million new subscribers, up from 2.4 million in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue came in at $8.54 billion, up from $7.9 billion last year.
Netflix says that the price increases will help it grow its content library, partner with the best creators, invest more in TV shows, movies, and games, and build an even more valuable business.
