DJI has introduced the Ronin 4D-8K integrated cinema camera, which combines a gimbal and camera into a single solution for filmmakers. The camera was officially announced three years ago in October 2021, and it has now finally started shipping.

DJI Ronin 4D 8K Specifications:

This camera system is designed to provide an all-in-one solution with 4-axis image stabilization, eliminating the need to attach a separate camera to a gimbal. The Ronin 4D-8K stands out for its physical design. Its main body is made from aluminum-magnesium alloy, with a Z-axis arm constructed of carbon fiber, ensuring both durability and lightweight handling. The entire setup, excluding the lens and storage card, weighs approximately 4.67 kg, making it suitable for a range of shooting scenarios, from handheld to vehicle-mounted.

The system features the Zenmuse X9-8K gimbal camera, capable of recording in full-frame 8K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps. This high-resolution capability allows for capturing intricate details in various settings and enhances post-production flexibility, including cropping and stabilization.

The Ronin 4D-8K offers dual-native ISO, starting at EI 320/1600 and expandable to EI 800/4000. This versatility is essential for shooting in various lighting conditions, from city nightscapes to well-lit outdoor scenes. The camera delivers a remarkable maximum dynamic range of 14.7 stops, enabling detailed captures in challenging lighting situations. DJI’s cinematic color science (DCCS) technology further enhances this, ensuring accurate color reproduction and appealing skin tones in diverse lighting environments.

For lens compatibility, the Ronin 4D-8K supports interchangeable mounts, accommodating a range of lens types including DJI’s own DL mount, and those from Leica, Sony, and ARRI. It also features a LiDAR focusing system for rapid and precise focus adjustments, even in challenging conditions.
