Amazon’s super-fast shipping is getting even faster, apparently. The company recently announced breaking their record by delivering over 2 billion items to Prime members in the first quarter of 2024, with either same-day or next-day service. This means nearly 60% of Prime orders in major US cities arrived within one or two days.

Many customers have noticed an increase in same-day and next-day delivery options. However, availability can vary depending on your location, the specific item you’re ordering, and any associated costs. There have also been concerns raised about the human cost of such rapid fulfillment, with reports of worker injuries and unionization efforts.
This rapid delivery dominance has made Amazon a target for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC alleges Amazon uses unfair practices to limit which sellers can offer Prime shipping and pressure companies into using their fulfillment services. Amazon, however, claims the FTC’s actions could lead to slower or less reliable Prime shipping for customers.
Amazon’s commitment to speedy delivery is undeniable. In 2019, they invested billions in building a vast fulfillment network with planes, trucks, drones, and robots, all aimed at competing with traditional carriers like FedEx and UPS to enable these super-fast deliveries. They’ve even launched a program allowing sellers to ship directly from factories, bypassing warehouses altogether.
