Larger washing machines gain popularity in India: A significant shift in consumer preferences, says Samsung India

Indian consumer behaviour has seen a significant shift over the past two years, with a growing preference for larger washing machines that can handle greater laundry loads. According to data from Samsung India’s latest consumer research, there has been a notable increase in the sales of front-load washing machines with capacities of 9kg and above, which have grown by 45 percent so far this year. In contrast, sales of 7kg and below front-load washing machines have declined by 26 percent during the same period.

Benefits of larger washing machines highlighted by Samsung

Samsung India highlighted that larger drum sizes in washing machines offer several benefits. Bigger drum sizes allow more space for the movement of clothes, leading to better-cleaned and untangled garments.

These machines are particularly useful for washing essential household items such as bedsheets, curtains, and saris, which are common in Indian households.

A consumer dipstick survey conducted by Samsung India revealed that many users optimize the use of their washing machines by ensuring the drum is always full, thereby minimizing energy consumption. However, some users tend to run a second wash cycle with just a few clothes, which can lead to water wastage.
