Atari has introduced the Atari 7800+, a modern update of the classic 1986 console. The new version is smaller and more powerful, with an HDMI port for easy connection to modern TVs and monitors.

The Atari 7800+ is priced at $129.99 and is compatible with both Atari 2600 and 7800 game cartridges, giving users access to a wide range of classic games. The console comes with a copy of Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest and includes a USB-C cable.

For a more authentic retro experience, the Atari 7800+ allows users to switch between widescreen and 4:3 viewing modes, offering flexibility in how games are displayed. The console also features a larger cartridge socket to reduce issues with cartridge sticking, making it compatible with a broader range of games.

Alongside the console, Atari has announced the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad (bundles with the Atari 7800+) and CX40+ Wireless Joystick, each priced at $34.99. The CX78+ Wireless Gamepad offers up to 25 hours of battery life and charges via USB-C. The CX40+ Wireless Joystick, compatible with the Atari 2600+ and all original Atari systems using the included DB9 wireless adapter, offers up to 30 hours of battery life and also charges via USB-C. Both controllers are compatible with PCs using the included USB-A adapter.

The Atari 7800+ and its controllers are set to launch in the winter of 2024, with pre-orders currently open.
