Apple announced iOS 18 back in Jun this year, which finally started rolling out a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, people are still reporting bugs in the update, one of which is related to the iMessage app. The bug is causing the app to crash and a data loss. Notably, the bug affects both of the users.

Apple Watch has a feature that lets users easily share their watch face over Messages or Mail directly from watchOS. This is meant to make it possible to share personalized watch face configurations. The bug in iMessage triggers when someone replies to a shared watch face in a thread in iMessage in iOS 18.

The app crashes if the user tries to open the conversation. Interacting with other chats may also become difficult as it starts crashing repeatedly. If the user responds in a thread to the shared watch face, Messages will crash on iOS 18.1 beta, iPadOS 18.1 beta, and macOS 15.1 beta as well.

There’s a fix

Both users can delete the conversation thread from their phones. Users should keep in mind that the solution, for now, results in the entire conversation history getting deleted. It also reportedly deletes attachments like photos and videos that you haven’t saved outside of iMessage.

An attempt to restore the deleted thread from the recently deleted section in the app also restores the bug.

We hope the company patches this bug out of iOS, macOS, and watchOS as soon as possible. Unless Apple rolls out the fix, users are advised to avoid replying to a threaded message if someone shares a watch face with you from Apple Watch.
