Following the release of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in its home country, Samsung is now reportedly working on the Galaxy S25 Slim, a new flagship device that combines cutting-edge hardware with a focus on a sleeker, slimmer profile.
This addition marks Samsung’s return to the “thin and light” approach it experimented with nearly a decade ago, with devices like the Galaxy Alpha. The Galaxy Alpha was just 6.7 mm thick, a stark contrast to the Galaxy S5’s 8.1 mm body. By bringing back a thin model within its flagship lineup, Samsung aims to cater to a segment of users who prioritize a lighter, more compact device without sacrificing flagship-level features.
Galaxy S25 Slim: what to expect?
The Galaxy S25 Slim may come equipped with a powerful camera system. The well-known tipster Ice Universe recently suggested on Weibo that the Galaxy S25 Slim will feature a 200-megapixel main camera. This camera is reportedly similar to the Ultra-level sensor Samsung already uses in its Ultra flagships, making the upcoming ‘Slim’ model a significant upgrade over standard configurations typically offered with thin smartphone models.
Significant in context, Samsung is already using a 200MP sensor in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, recently launched in South Korea.
With model number SM-S937, the Galaxy S25 Slim has already been spotted in various regulatory filings, including the IMEI database. This appearance in regulatory databases is often an indication that a device is in the final stages of testing and approval before hitting the markets.
In terms of size and build, the S25 Slim is expected to fit seamlessly within the S25 lineup, joining the Galaxy S25 (SM-S931), Galaxy S25+ (SM-S936), and Galaxy S25 Ultra (SM-S938). As of now, the precise dimensions and thickness of the Galaxy S25 Slim remain speculative, though it’s expected to significantly differ from the standard S25 models.
Apple is reportedly taking a similar approach
Samsung is not the only major brand exploring ultra-thin designs in their flagship lineup. Apple, one of Samsung’s main competitors, is reportedly developing a “Slim” or “Air” version of the upcoming iPhone 17 series. This device is expected to replace the current iPhone Plus model, offering Apple’s user base a lightweight alternative in the 2025 flagship lineup.
