The Realme 14x was just unveiled in the Indian market. While it boasts some impressive specs and features, it’s not all good news. For its price range, offerings from other brands have an edge in certain specifications. These are particularly noticeable in areas like the display. So let’s have a look.

Realme 14x with IP69 rating

1. What Realme 14x Gets Right

Before we get into what it skips out on, first let’s see what Realme 14x gets right. The brand packs a massive 6,000mAh battery pack, which is a sizeable capacity for its class. There is also support for 45W wired fast charging. For just 14,999 INR (roughly 176 US Dollars), you get a military-grade MIL-STD 810H certification, a “Free Call” feature that allows users to make calls without a network, and AI powered camera features like “AI Clear Face”.

Realme placed a great emphasis on the design and you get an IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. You get protection against water immersion and high expression water sprays, which isn’t a common feature at this price. So now, let’s see what they get wrong.

2. Performance

Under the hood, the Realme 14x is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC. This isn’t particularly a weak chipset, but there are other smartphones that offer better specifications. Great examples of this include the POCO M7 Pro 5G, which is powered by the Dimensity 7025 Ultra chipset. There is also the iQOO Z9x that packs the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, offering faster performance. In most scenarios, this wouldn’t affect the user, but the difference would be noticeable if you play games on your phone or perform other intensive tasks.

3. Display

One area where the Realme 14x disappoints in particular is the display department. The smartphone sports a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. However, it only offers HD+ resolution (1604 x 720). At this price, we now have many options with much better display specifications.

The HMD Crest is another device that comes to mind. It has a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. Similarly, the POCO M7 Pro 5G also features a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. So it’s clear that the resolution and display type is a letdown. Even if there is an LCD panel, you still get a higher resolution and a brighter screen.

4. Camera

You’re not getting a versatile camera setup for this budget, but the Realme 14x only offers a single 50MP camera on the back. It looks like there are more sensors, although that isn’t the case. For selfies and video calls, you get an 8MP camera on the front. There are options like the Redmi Note 13, which offers better camera specifications. The main sensor is a 108MP shooter, which is paired with an 8MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.
