Realme has officially announced the launch of its highly anticipated Realme 14 Pro series, set to debut in January 2025. The mid-range smartphone lineup is expected to bring cutting-edge features, including a revolutionary cold-sensitive color-changing rear panel, making it a standout in its segment.

The rear panel can change its color

The series will reportedly feature two models: the Realme 14 Pro and Realme 14 Pro Plus. The highlight is the advanced rear panel, which changes color when exposed to temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius. Unlike the UV-sensitive color-changing feature seen in the Realme 9 Pro Plus, the Realme 14 Pro Plus uses cold-sensitive technology, developed in collaboration with Valeur Designers.

The phone’s rear panel transitions from pearl white to bright blue, utilizing real seashell pearl powder and micro-capsules containing special pigments. Each device has a unique pattern, thanks to the variation in powder mixing.

However, this feature has a limitation; prolonged exposure to sunlight reduces its effectiveness over time, with the effect predicted to last up to 12 months under normal use.

The Realme 14 Pro Plus also boasts a bezel-less quad-curved display, offering an immersive visual experience. At the back, it features a centrally positioned circular camera module with three LED flashes, branded as “MagicGlow,” designed to enhance low-light photography. Additionally, the phone is water-resistant, with IP68 and IP69 certifications, and even supports underwater photography using the volume button as a shutter.

What else to expect?

Under the hood, the Realme 14 Pro Plus is powered by the latest Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset (Geekbench performance test), built on TSMC’s 4nm process. This chip delivers a 40% boost in GPU and 20% in CPU performance compared to its predecessor, alongside a 30% improvement in AI capabilities and enhanced power efficiency.

The phone is expected to feature a 1.5K quad-curved display with ultra-thin 1.6mm bezels. Its camera setup includes a 50 MP + 8 MP + 50 MP configuration, with one of the 50 MP lenses being a Sony IMX 882 periscope telephoto sensor that supports 3x zoom.

Realme is rumored to equip the device with 80W fast charging and possibly a silicon-carbon battery, potentially offering a capacity of 6,000 mAh or more. While official pricing remains unknown, the Realme 14 Pro Plus is expected to start around IDR 6 million in Indonesia, similar to its predecessor.

The Realme 14 Pro series promises a blend of innovation and premium features, setting a new benchmark for mid-range smartphones.
