DeepSeek AI Assistant Top App on Apple’s App Store on iOS
As of right now, the Chinese AI assistant from DeepSeek is the top rated free app on Apple’s Apple Store in the US. It is currently the top app for iPhones, beating out rivals like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. For those unaware, DeepSeek is making waves for being an open-source platform, which is based on the DeepSeek V3 model. The artificial intelligence apparently requires far less computing power than its competitors as well.
While it is still disputed, the people behind DeepSeek claim that it was developed for under 6 million US Dollars. Despite its relatively cost efficient development, it promises to offer performance that can match Claude 3.5, GPT-4o and others. Similar to other AI platforms, DeepSeek also offers functions like ChatGPT, which can help content creators and be useful in research. It is currently available as an app, API, and on the web, making it easily accessible to all.
The first DeepSeek-R1 was rolled out under an MIT license, so it is free to be used commercially without any restrictions. DeepSeek’s open-source approach also challenges various closed-source models developed by major tech brands. This shift towards greater transparency and accessibility, allows a wider range of individuals and organizations to contribute to its development and benefit from its potential.
