Google has introduced Gemini 2.0 Flash as the new default model for its Gemini app, bringing improvements in speed and efficiency. This update, following its December launch, improves performance across key areas, making tasks like brainstorming, learning, and writing faster and more seamless. With quicker response times and better processing, users can generate ideas, explore concepts, and create written content more smoothly.

For Gemini Advanced subscribers, the 1 million token context window remains available, allowing for document uploads of up to 1,500 pages. Subscribers also retain access to exclusive features like Deep Research, which helps uncover insights and connections, and Gems, which provides curated resources for more efficient research.

Additionally, image generation now uses Imagen 3, offering more detailed textures and accurate interpretations of prompts. The new model does a better job of handling fine details, realistic elements, and stylistic choices, making it easier to generate photorealistic images and creative artwork.
Gemini 2.0 Flash is now available on both web and mobile apps. To ease the transition, Google will continue supporting the previous models, Gemini 1.5 Flash and 1.5 Pro, for a limited time so users can wrap up any ongoing conversations.
In other news, Microsoft is bringing distilled versions of DeepSeek R1 to Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs, allowing AI features to run efficiently on-device without needing an internet connection. This improves privacy and performance by keeping data processing local. The rollout will start with Snapdragon X-powered devices from brands like Asus, Lenovo, Dell, HP, and Acer, followed by Intel Core Ultra 200V and AMD Ryzen AI 300 series.
