Audio-Technica will release its ATH-AC5TW wireless open-ear earphones on March 14, priced at ¥14,960 (~$100) in Japan, and will be available via Amazon in the U.S. The design avoids sealing the ear canal, enabling users to hear ambient sounds, making it suitable for walking, remote work, or household tasks.

Unlike traditional in-ear models with silicone tips, the ear hook-style design positions speakers near the ear canal without blockage. To counter audio limitations from this open structure, the ATH-AC5TW uses a 17×12mm driver—larger than typical in-ear drivers (6–12mm)—paired with bass-enhancing algorithms and dynamic EQ for fuller low-end sound.

Each earpiece weighs 10.5 grams, with Bluetooth 5.4 supporting SBC/AAC codecs and multi-device pairing. Dual MEMS microphones employ beamforming to isolate speech during calls. The IPX4-rated earphones offer 13 hours of playtime (34 hours with the case), recharge fully in two hours, and power on automatically when removed from the case. Single-ear use is supported.
In other news, HONOR has introduced the HONOR Earbuds Open, featuring an open-ear design with 16mm magnetic drivers and a titanium-plated tweeter dome for immersive audio. They include a 3-mic hybrid ANC system, spatial audio, AI translation with three modes, an AI assistant, dual-device connectivity, and gesture controls.
