Leaked metal molds of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series have surfaced online, offering a glimpse into the design. The front of the metal molds also includes the exact dimensions of the devices. Shared by Apple leakster Sonny Dickson on X (formerly Twitter), the molds showcase the iPhone 17 Pro Max (or Ultra), iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and the base iPhone 17. These molds are typically created to help third-party case manufacturers prepare accessories for the phones, so the design should be accurate.

iPhone 17 Air is larger than both the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro
The molds reveal that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro will share the same height of 149.6mm, likely featuring a 6.3-inch display. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Air stands taller at 156mm. It’s rumored to be the thinnest iPhone ever, which is also evident from the protrusion of the camera module. The thickness could also be one of the reasons why it lacks a telephoto.

All four models feature MagSafe on the back and Dynamic Island on the front, along with a consistent button layout. On the left side, there are two volume buttons and a Mute Switch, while the right side houses an Action Button and a new Camera Control key. Interestingly, the base iPhone 17 still packs a vertical camera layout as the iPhone 16, which separates it from the rest of the lineup. Also, it’s the only iPhone in the series that does not include the flash module inside the raised camera island.
The Plus model attracted the least attention throughout the last couple of generations. Now, with the new and slim Air model replacing that, will the base model be treated as the Plus of the previous generation, especially with this nearly identical design? We’ll need to see.
