Casio America has launched the GA-V01, a new G-SHOCK watch that blends durability with innovation while staying true to the brand’s origins. The design is based on founder Kikuo Ibe’s original rubber ball prototype, which first introduced the idea of shock resistance that defines G-SHOCK today.

As per Casio, the GA-V01’s story has three parts. First, the rubber ball leaves the lab, showing G-SHOCK’s beginning. Second, it’s changed by the idea of toughness. Third, it becomes something new with creativity and purpose. The colors: metallic silver, neon yellow, purple, and matte black—each stands for one of these parts.

The watch has a fused bezel and band that form a single unit, giving it a solid build. It uses curved, shock-absorbing glass, large bumper-style indexes, and angled side buttons. These features make it more durable and give it a bold look.
In a first for G-SHOCK, the GA-V01 uses a magnetic holding structure for the hands. Instead of being fixed to a shaft, the minute hand is held in place by magnetic force. This setup, known as the Shock Release Hand, helps absorb and release impact more effectively, and also allows for larger, more prominent hands.
The watch has a hybrid analog-digital display. It includes a metallic skeleton dial, full-screen LCD, oversized hands, and an extra indicator hand, all designed to create a layered, technical look.
It is shock-resistant and water-resistant up to 200 meters. Features include world time for 48 cities, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, five daily alarms, a hand shift function, and dual LED lighting. The battery lasts up to ten years.
Pricing & availability
The GA-V01 is priced at $140 and is available on gshock.com, at the G-SHOCK Soho store, and select retail outlets.
