Huawei’s upcoming flagship, the Mate 80 RS, has surfaced in a fresh leak. This has revealed some details regarding the upcoming device’s new camera system from Smartsens. It brings a brand-new large main camera and improved video recording. So here’s what you need to know.

Huawei Mate 80 RS Gets an Upgraded Smartsens Main Camera

The latest leak arrives from known tipster Digital Chat Station who shared the information on Weibo. In his recent social media posts, he claimed that the upcoming Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design is getting a new camera hardware. It is unclear if this extends to the entire Mate 80 lineup, but the most premium model will be getting a new camera system dubbed as the SC590XS.

Considering how the RS version is usually similar to the Pro variants, this camera could be heading to the Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro+ versions as well. This is a 50MP camera that has a 1/1.28-inch sensor size (similar to the sensor found on the iPhone 16 Pro models). This is a smaller camera compared to the 1-inch sensor featured on the Pura 80 Pros and Pura 80 Ultra models. But this will be built on a 22nm process with a 1.2μm pixel size.

With the Mate 80 RS Ultimate, Huawei may offer 4K video recording at 120fps along with advanced quad phase-detect auto focus and CMOS imaging, which could be from either OmniVision or Samsung. Smartsens is making the new camera for the future Huawei flagships, and rumors have also hinted at the Xiaomi 16 series also getting a similar system for its cameras.
