Google is rolling out a big update to its Search AI Mode, introducing smarter restaurant booking in the US while also taking the feature global in a separate expansion. Announced on August 21, the changes mark the biggest step yet for Google’s AI-powered search assistant.

The standout update is a new “agentic” capability that makes dining reservations far easier. Users can type in details like date, time, party size, cuisine, and location, and Google’s AI will surface options with real-time availability from platforms such as OpenTable, Resy, and Tock. Tapping through takes you directly to the booking page, streamlining the process. For now, this feature is limited to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US ($249.99/month) as part of the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment within Search Labs.
Global AI Mode rollout
Alongside this, Google announced that AI Mode itself is expanding to 180 new countries and territories. Until now, the feature was only available in the US, India, and the UK. The expansion is English-only for now, but it represents a major step toward making Google’s conversational search tools more widely accessible.
In regions where AI Mode is live, Google is also refining results to better match user preferences, drawing on past searches, Maps check-ins, and conversations. For dining specifically, it can suggest restaurants that fit your usual style — like Italian spots with outdoor seating. A new Share button makes it easy to send AI-generated shortlists to friends, which could make group planning more seamless.
Google has hinted that agentic capabilities won’t stop at food. Partnerships with Ticketmaster, StubHub, and other services are already in motion, paving the way for AI-powered booking of events, appointments, and more.
