Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its next generation of flagship smartphones soon. While many were expecting the Xiaomi 16 series to be the latest premium phones, the company just announced that its new flagships will be from the Xiaomi 17 series. But with these new devices, many are seeing some odd similarities with Apple’s latest iPhone 17 series. So here is every direct “inspiration” Xiaomi has taken from Apple.
HyperOS 3’s Dynamic Island
Back in 2022, Apple first debuted the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 series. This feature was soon adopted by various Android brands like Oppo, OnePlus, and even Samsung. Now, Xiaomi is the latest brand to hop on this trend with the upcoming HyperOS 3. Even the name is quite familiar, as Xiaomi’s iteration of the Dynamic Island will be called Xiaomi Super Island. This feature would allow for small window multitasking, up to three active islands, and more.
Liquid Glass on the Xiaomi 17?
This one is more of a speculation rather than a confirmed aspect. When iOS 26 was first showcased, the new Liquid Glass UI elements were a major highlight. It was quite polarizing to the community as some loved it, while others hated the Windows Vista inspired look. But a leak from June hinted that the latest Android 16 OS based HyperOS 3 custom skin might be taking another inspiration from Apple.
A leaked screenshot of the HyperOS 3 UI revealed a familiar liquid glass like design. This can be seen with the frosted blur effects and glossy icons on the transparent glass-like search bar. Although, rather than going for an over the top look, Xiaomi might be focusing on a subtle depth to focus on readability. We can expect this UI aesthetic on more elements.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max makes it rather obvious
Ignoring the new HyperOS 3 software features like the liquid glass and Xiaomi Super Island, there’s a much more obvious inspiration that Xiaomi is taking from the newly announced iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The next gen flagships from the Chinese tech giant are literally borrowing the name now, too. Early rumors had claimed that there is a new Xiaomi 16 Pro Max model in the works.
But the latest announcement confirming the Xiaomi 17 moniker basically confirms that Xiaomi wants to take the iPhone 17 series head on. Based on what we know so far, the upcoming premium phones are expected to include the base Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The last model seems like a direct competitor to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and was recently leaked with a dual screen design.
